What is CNC Drilling and Tapping Center?

The CNC drilling and taping center is a specialized CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine used to create smooth holes and threads in various materials like metal, plastic, and composites.

Drilling and tapping are different techniques. Drilling is the process of rotating a drill bit on a fixed workpiece to create round holes that fit bolts and screws of precise sizes. Tapping is only done when there is a hole, rotating a suitable tap to create threads inside the hole.

Known for their speed, accuracy, and ability to handle complex jobs, CNC drill tap center machines are fundamental to modern manufacturing.

FAQs about CNC Drilling & Tapping Machines

  1. Check the machine to ensure the stability of the machine structure
  2. Adjust the positions of the tools and install them correctly
  3. Maintain the machine regularly
  4. Check the knife library regularly and place knives in a standardized manner

Check whether the spindle motor is faulty and replace the spindle motor in time.

It may be caused by too long a tool or unstable workpiece. The solution is to replace the tool of the appropriate length and check the clamping of the workpiece.

Incorrect auxiliary fixture or positioning can cause the hole to deviate. The solution is to reposition the fixture or workpiece.

Advantages of Gongtie Drilling and Tapping Center.

T series drilling and tapping center series are high-speed  drilling and tapping centers with comprehensive and high-rigidity cutting capabilities, BT30/BT40 spindle, high-efficiency tapping, and the number of revolutions is 12000/20000rpm. The XY/Z axis guide rails are all carried by ball rails, with high rigidity, low friction, low noise, strong shock resistance, light weight design, low inertia, and higher response.

The 21T large-capacity tool magazine meets the processing needs of the current stage, and the high-speed servo tool change system saves tool change time and improves processing efficiency. it is suitable for precision drilling and milling processing, 3c industrial parts processing, new energy auto parts processing, precision mold processing and other fields.

How do Gongtie CNC Drilling Tapping Center Machines Work?

As a professional manufacturer, We, Goingtie, have an in-depth understanding of the cnc drilling and tapping machine operation. Let’s take a look.

1. Programming – Draw a Detailed Product Model in the CAD Program

First, create a detailed product model through CAD software. Remember to check the drawing carefully to avoid making the wrong holes.

2. Integrating the Design Into Machine Code

Then, use the CAM software to convert CAD files into a code in the form of numbers, which is the language that CNC drill tap center machines can understand. This step ensures the accuracy and automation of the machining process. Operators need to get a qualified programmer for optimal results during this process.

3. Inputting the Code to the CNC Drilling & Tapping Machine

The code input into the CNC drilling & tapping machine will instruct the machine on how it moves, drills, and cuts threads.

4. Set Up the Machine

Position and clamp the workpiece securely on the machine. Operators can use a holding plate, clamp, or magnetic chuck to hold the workpiece in place.

5. Drilling

The drilling process usually starts with quickly positioning the drill over the hole’s location, then beginning the drilling process. Once drilling is complete, the tool quickly returns to the starting position. During drilling, it’s important to select the right tool and holder to achive the desired surface quality and accuracy.

6. Tapping

Tapping is performed by rotating the spindle in a counterclockwise direction. When the suitable tool reaches the bottom of the hole, the spindle rotates in the opposite direction to withdraw, forming the thread in the process. Tapping speeds are usually low to ensure the accuracy and strength of the thread.

7. Cycle Control

Drilling and tapping operations in CNC drilling and tapping systems can be performed through fixed cycles (such as G84 and G88), which include steps such as rapid movement, drilling, pause, and retraction. In high-speed deep hole tapping, intermittent tapping and retraction operations may also be used to clear chips.

8. Ending

After drilling and tapping, the tool will quickly return to the initial plane and the entire processing process is completed.
